A somewhat smaller, but nonetheless impressive version of the Ibiza club, Club Space Miami is one of the premiere clubs of the city, voted #1 Night Club eight times by DJ Mag. From the outside, the club is deceiving. It is located in the less glitzy downtown section of Miami, away from the hip lounges of the glamorous Collins Avenue. However, this doesn’t matter for the typical attendee of this club. Clubbers at Space Miami are serious about their music. They’re not there to casually sip a Bellini, or to chat about partygoers’ outfits. They came to see resident DJs, Oscar G or Cedric Gervais. Or, for a guest appearance from the energetic, new on the scene Sander Van Doorn, who’s spinning in the main room. Electronic music junkies are there to party into late morning hours with Eric Prydz on the famous (infamous?) Terrace.
The Interior at Space is spacious, modern, and easy to move around in.
The club’s sound system is noteworthy, with some serious bass that cuts through your soul. Guest and resident DJs alike get the crowd going wild with a pull of the crazy “train” horn. Expect to hear an eclectic mix of trance, progressive, tribal, electro, and deep house. Each room is sublimely decorated and the entire club feature a lighting system that is envy of many a venue in the city.
Before heading down to Miami for WMC, research what DJs are lined up for each night, and secure that ticket ahead of time. Tickets are generally no more than $20 and advance purchase not only guarantees your entrance, but gives you the rare chance to spend that time relaxing on the beach, or partying at one of the pool parties, instead of figuring out your night plans.
Space has a 24 hour liquor license so be careful to pace your drinking, and, a word of advice from my personal cautionary tale-do not wear high heels (or you’ll be taking them off circa 3 am, while entranced in dance, atop a riser, hands held in a slow fist pumping worship of Ferry Corsten, or whichever DJ you’ve fallen in love with that night ).
