Smog vs. Basshead: Dubstep Invades Miami

Smog vs. Basshead: Dubstep Invades Miami

LA’s powerhouse dubstep crew SMOG is mobbing deep to Miami, bringing a tribe of hungry bass lovers to meet up with Miami-based speaker-freakers Basshead, and the resulting event epiphany will lead to nothing less than a full-blown dance floor freak-out.
As a professional dance floor expert, I will say that NO music makes the party go wilder than a well-timed dubstep drop; the crowd ceases to dance and starts spasming up to the ceilings involuntarly, possessed by lashing of the low end. Prepare to lose your drink, possibly your clothes, and maybe even your mind with this ridiculous lineup of dubstep talent:
  • Mary Anne Hobbs: Host of ‘Experimental’ on BBC Radio 1, she has done more to spread the sound of dubstep than anyone else on earth.
  • Plastician: Much-heralded producer and radio voice; put together the recent mix Dubstep LA: Embrace the Renaissance; you can get it here.
  • 12th Planet: LA’s King of Dubstep and some say, the biggest force in US dubstep today. Always delivers.
  • Datsik: A newcomer to the dubstep scene and only 21 years old, his stomping beats and party bangers are pushing the genre in a wild direction.
  • Excision: Influenced by heavy metal, drum and bass and hip hop, this Canadian producer brings a mad versatility to his productions and performances.

Crashing across the globe in giant metal boots of bass, dubstep is the fastest growing genre of electronic music. A fresh and dirty sound, dubstep has has slower tempos that are still danceable and bass-driven rhythms saturated in wobble. The heavy, slapping sound has been inspiring audiences from the UK to LA to freak the H out. Get ready Miami.
