I’m venturing that the majority of you WMC attendees are not from the subtropical swamp of South Florida, and thus may not be prepared for what you’ve got yourselves into. Sure, you’ll pack your bikini or swim trunks, some light dresses, and man tanks, attempting to prepare for the infamous sweltering heat. But what you’re forgetting is that the weather isn’t the only hot thing in Miami – the people are hot as well, and they’re also pretty styling…
If you’re concerned that your current wardrobe isn’t going to make Miami Nightclub dress codes, you needn’t worry. Collins Ave. is lined with hundreds of tourist traps selling neon ‘I’m in Miami, Bitch’ t-shirts for the ironic sort, but there is also a bevy of designer stores within steps from all the happening Winter Music Conference parties. Here are a few of my favorite.
Intermix – ($$$$) My personal favorite, where they sell clothing from top designers like Chloe, Stella McCartney, Theory and Wren, to name a few. It’s the perfect place to let your inner fashionista go free and to utilize that Amex you finagled out of the rich old man you met at the hotel bar last night. Beware of the price tag – $500+ bags are not uncommon. 634 Collins Avenue
Sephora – ($$) Girls, you’ve got to do something about your make-up. It’s fricking hot, and you’re not going to want your foundation melting all over your face. That won’t be good for anyone. Head to Sephora and get in touch with one of their consultants. They’ll point you to all the water/sweat/champagne proof make-up you’ll need. 721 Collins Ave
Arden B. – ($$$) Tucked away on the southern tip of Collins closest to Fifth Street, this newly-opened beach location offers the edginess we all crave at a price we can afford. Great not only for the perfect pair of cargo capris and sexy semi-revealing tanks, but you are also going to find the quintessential hat for a night out on the town. 640 Collins Avenue
Nicole Miller - ($$$) Nicole Miller is a goddess among fashionistas around the globe. She constantly designs the perfect little black dress, the must-have outfit for black tie events. 656 Collins Avenue
United Colors of Benetton – ($$) Everything comes in bright sunny colors — strappy sexy tanks, lightweight linen skirts and pants, even fabulous shirts for you guys. What’s more Miami than that? 670 Collins Avenue
Giroux - ($$) One of the hottest shoe stores in Miami. Pick up a perfect pair of shoes for day or night, and don’t miss their own unique brand of designer shoes. 638 Collins Avenue
Armani Exchange – ($$$) $100 pairs of jeans and plenty of sleek European designs…plus, good music pumping throughout the store. 760 Collins Avenue
Guess? – ($$) Your typical Guess department store. Great for getting all the basics at a reasonable price. 736 Collins Avenue
Diesel - ($$$) This toned-down store and modest collection of designer jeans and t-shirts is very different then what you will find in New York…but the price tag is about the same. $100+ jeans and $40+ t-shirts make for expensive beach wear or great club wear. 801 Washington Avenue
MAC – ($$$) For all you ladies who forgot your makeup at home, MAC’s products have you covered. A bonus is that their products will stand up against your sweat, crucial in Miami’s humidity… you’re safe, dancing all night and day. 650 Collins Avenue
Urban Outfitters – ($) Very un-Miami, these New York style, casual, affordable, fun clothes are perfect for lounging around the pool and going to the beach … and Ultra Music Festival. 653 Collins Avenue
Galleria – ($$$) One of South Beach’s best kept secrets, these guys and girls stores carry D&G, Hugo Boss, Roberto Cavalli and few other designers to get you ready for the dance floor and VIP area. Tucked away in a small shop just around the corner from Collins Ave. 749 Washington Avenue
Kenneth Cole – ($$) Two floors of shoes, handbags, sunglasses, jewelry and well-designed clothing perfect for Miami nightclubs and getting around town. 190 8th Street
Club Manaco - ($$$) Preppy, classic looks at an affordable price for men and women. Great for blazers and slacks … not sure where you would wear them to during Winter Music Conference, though. 624 Collins Avenue
After you’re done touring Collins Ave., shopping like a maniac, and listening to pounding trance as you go, why don’t you just walk to your room, drop your bags onto the ground, and go lay out by the pool for a minute? Soon it’s time to throw on some of those new clothes and head out on the town, because I know it’s corny, but YOU’RE IN MIAMI, BITCH.
