Erykah Badu has been the talk of the town these days. Her new album, New Amerykah Return of the Ankh, comes out Tuesday. She held a secret not so secret concert this past Saturday at Good Units in which Spank Rock got boo’d off stage and Ms. Badu was so late there was over an hour gap between performances. According to Twitterverse, not many people stuck around to hear her set and those who did were not impressed. Either way, I love Erykah Badu and she is continuing the buzz with her new single and video, Window Seat.
The video was filmed in downtown Dallas all in one shot with no crew, or no sett. The video shows Badu stripping down running through the streets… and let me add she looks damn good doing it. Watch and enjoy.

I need an intern! If you are interested or know anyone that might be hit me up! Send an email to (kristina@thedowntowndiaries.com) with a short description of your experience and why you are interested in the position. Must live in NYC but this is a WFH position. Going out and attending cool parties is apart of the job, duh. Having a good camera is a plus!
Thanks!

Brokelyn put together this amazing price check of all the different car services in The Burg, I had to share it. Glad to see Metro is the cheapest…I always use them if I can’t flag down a yellow guy.
Our latest car-service price check brings us to Williamsburg, where we compared the fares for six different companies.
As with last time, we called car services like anyone else would and asked for quotes on three different destinations. With a hypothetical starting point at Bedford Avenue and N. 12th Street, we asked for fares to: 1) to Lafayette Avenue and Ashland Place in Fort Greene, 2) to Delancey and Allen Streets on the Lower East Side and 3) to JFK Airport. We called each car service within a 20-minute span on an early weekday afternoon. We also compared rates with those of a metered yellow cab. Here’s what we found: Read the rest of this entry »

I never heard of Loris Diran until I received the invite for the show, but was all about covering emerging designers. Loris Diran premiered his collect at the Bowery Hotel on Saturday, February 13th and I must say, the Bowery Hotel is a great space for a fashion show. I was so dead from my first night of Fashion Week, that I barely made it to the 12PM show, and thankfully I did because this was one of the best collections I saw all week! Alex McCord, Simon Van Kempin, Ester Nash, Idashio, Derek Warburton, and Rosemary Pamtra were all front row and I believe Alex McCord is a personal friend of the designer. The show itself was quite lovely, a very well put together collection that showed us everything from day wear to evening wear for men and women (love me some male model eye candy!)
I was digging the hair and makeup on the female models – messy up-dos and dark lips – it added a little edge to a more professional collection. The looks varied from tailored suits to sophisticated dresses to formal wear in cream, black, and copper. One thing I liked the best about Diran’s presentation was he showed us 30+ very different and unique looks. There were no two pieces that resembled each other yet the collection still had overall consistency and synonymous look and feel. There were def a few “wow” pieces – all in the formal wear department as well as this wool, military-style trench coat which seems to be burned in my brain.
Loris Diran is not a designer to sleep on, I’m so glad I had the opportunity to preview this collection. I highly recommend checking him out and seeing what he has in store for Spring/Summer – I’m already looking forward to it!!!
